Hana Apparel Design is owned and operated by Neda Alemohammad.
Neda arrived in Australia in early 2014. Before arriving, she completed several short fashion courses in Iran and is now studying fashion design at the Canberra Institute of Technology. This is her debut appearance at FASHFEST.
Through her independent label, Neda creates beautiful Western designs with Persian motifs. Her aesthetic is influenced by the delicate and gentle side of the Middle East, which remains despite recent decades of war and brutality. Garments celebrate the beauty and richness of Persian culture—the creativity and splendour of Iran. Some of Hana’s garments are made from hand-painted, natural fabrics.
Hana designs appeal to women of all ages—women who are interested in diversity, the splendour of different cultures and wearing unique clothing. These are women who are dedicated to ethical production, sustainable practices and Australian-made fashion.
In Neda’s last collection—Wear a Piece of Art—each garment told a story. Many stories were inspired by poems, which play a strong role in Persian culture. Neda attached a note to each garment explaining the symbols and scripts hand-painted onto each one. Her FASHFEST 2015 collection is entitled Immigration and celebrates the cultures of those who arrive here and how they mix with the richness of Australian culture and this country’s nature and landscape.
All Hana garments are designed and made in Canberra.
