The Mimetic brand focuses on travel business wear, producing biannual capsule collections that provide the female traveller with a professional and durable wardrobe that is practical, stylish and fashionable, yet fits within a 7kg capacity suitcase. The designers behind this independent label, George McWilliam and Melissa Pompeani, will showcase their fashion design graduation collection on the FASHFEST runway in 2015.
Mimetic offers the female Gen Y consumer classic-inspired clothing—custom designs that focus on fit and technology. The end result? A travel packing experience that is simple, unique and progressive. Garments are produced using the highest quality fabrics and finishes and are designed to enable the wearer to move between business and social situations with ease.
Consumers gain a strong personal connection with Mimetic garments through the application of custom, 3D and digital printing—a new-age manufacturing technique.
Mimetic is attractive to two types of traveller. ‘The existing professional traveller’, who must always look professional, in all work contexts. She has a well-developed personality, understands good design, appreciates quality clothing and is willing to invest in fashion. This professional represents her company’s brand at all times while she is on the road. ‘The aspiring professional traveller’ is younger and just starting her career. She is building her personal style and learning about high-quality and unique fashion design.
All of Mimetic’s garments are designed and manufactured in Canberra. The label offers both off-the-rack and made-to-measure clothing.
Both George and Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design), from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in 2014.
