This group show is presented by the second year Bachelor of Applied Fashion students from the University of Canberra at TAFE Queensland. ‘Design Activism’ is a direct response to the compelling and complex issues of sustainability and ethical practice in the clothing industry. The collections in this show reflect the student’s exploration of upcycling, excess, pollution and longevity of appeal. Each student’s work is a personal manifesto to persuade change in the wearer or viewer. The show is important as fashion students need to consider how they might change or influence any stage of the fashion system—design, manufacturing, production, distribution and disposal. This is the first time students from Queensland have showcased their work at FASHFEST. The Bachelor of Applied Fashion degree is a higher education partnership between the University of Canberra and TAFE QLD.
